Chess Tournament by UAC Students
At Pujasera (PJS), yesterday (1 November 2025) morning a chess tournament was held at the Pujasera food courts, which began on November 1 and will run until November 3. This tournament was created to increase student interest in the art of chess.
The people who organize this tournament not only help students train their minds, they also help preserve culture so that it is not lost due to the passage of time. Many people participated in the tournament, ranging from young people to the elderly.
One of the participants, Rahman, believes that this tournament has many benefits. Not only does it train the mind, but it also strives to build a community of chess lovers.
“aku pikir turnamen catur ini bagus untuk melatih fikiran dan juga membangun sebuah komunitas pecinta catur, aku juga sebagai peserta ngerasain sendiri gimana komunitas ini kebentuk, mungkin kedepannya bakal ada yang ngadain turnamen kayak gini lagi”
(I think this chess tournament is great for training the mind and also building a community of chess lovers. As a participant, I have experienced firsthand how this community was formed. Maybe in the future, someone will hold another tournament like this again.) He said.
From this tournament, we can conclude that regardless of age, as long as they have the ability, they are on equal footing and participate as contestants.
In addition, this event also provides an opportunity for students to learn about sportsmanship and discipline. During the tournament, participants were seen respecting one another, showing patience, and thinking strategically before making every move. This shows that chess is not only about intelligence but also about character building. The organizing committee hopes that through activities like this, students can develop both their analytical skills and their sense of respect for others.
Furthermore, the success of this tournament has encouraged the university to plan similar activities in the future. The enthusiasm of the participants and the positive response from the community demonstrate that chess still holds a special place among students. With continuous support, tournaments like this can become a routine agenda that strengthens social ties and nurtures a culture of intellectual competition in campus life.
